Hello Noble Knitters - It's KnitDocDonna here to share a tip for top down shawls with selvedge edges or border stitches.

Shawl knitting can take more time than many projects, so let's make sure when it's time to get those stitches off the needles and onto the blocking boards it will grow to be as wide as you want it to be. This is a simple tip, but a really important one!

How To: Top Down Shawl Knitting/Tip to Get Maximum Width with Selvedge Edges

When working the first set of selvedge edge stitches on each and every row, make sure you are working VERY loosely.

Pulling the working needle to the right as shown below will help you build in just the right amount of slack! 

Having that extra slack on the edging will allow you to stretch your project further width wise when blocking!
