Big Book of Christmas Knits: 70 Scandinavian Holiday Patterns

Do you love to knit for Christmas? This new book, Big Book of Christmas Knits may just be the only holiday knitting book you’ll need to purchase. It’s packed with over 70 Scandinavian holiday patterns.

I was recently gifted a copy of this book from my friends at Trafalgar Square and I haven’t been able to put it down since it arrived.

PS. I did not receive any financial compensation for this post and my opinions are my own. This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my full disclosure for more information.

I’d love to tell you about everything packed in this beautiful book so let’s get started!

It was written by Jorid Linvik, an author from Norway who is known for her BIG knitting books including:

Tips on Knitting Scandinavian Patterns

There are 208 pages in the Big Book of Christmas Knits beginning with guides to help you use all of the patterns and projects in the book.

Scandinavian patterns feature a lot of colorwork, stranded knitting, and duplicate stitches. The basics section covers all of that information and more to make the most of this knitting style. In addition, there’s a section on reading charts, knitting abbreviations, and how to choose the right materials for your projects.

Linvik leaves nothing to chance and also provides details on how to make pompoms, i-cord, fringe & doll hair, and felting.

Christmas Knitting Projects

Advent Bags to Knit for the Christmas Season

With 70 projects in one book, it’s hard to show you every project. However, you can get a pretty good feel for the patterns included by checking out some of my favorites.

Here’s a roundup of what you’ll find in this book.

Advent Bags

Days leading up to Christmas can be just as exciting as the holiday itself. These Advent bags are a collection of gift bags to knit in 24 unique motifs. Fill them with tiny surprises such as candies, trinkets, and other small treasures to be opened each day leading up to the 25th.

They are easy to knit up in fun holiday designs including Santas, squirrels, Christmas Trees, snowmen, mice, angels, and more.

Dolls

When I was a girl, one of my favorite parts of the holidays was decorating. My mother would unpack all of the decorations along with a few holiday toys that we could play with during this special time of year. The Big Book of Christmas Knits includes three dolls to knit that work as both decoration and play toys.

Dolls include Rampus Rampenisse (sort of like an Elf on the Shelf), Little Postman, and Doll with Hair. These adorable holiday dolls all are knitted with the same body style and there are a number of adorable accessories that may be used interchangeably with them. Accessories include scarf, bib, suspenders, hats, slippers, backpack, vest, dress with wings, and pants.

This really fun collection of dolls and accessories will be enjoyed for years to come.

Christmas Stockings

There’s nothing like waking up Christmas morning and peaking in Christmas stockings to see what Santa brings. Jorid Linvik shows you how to create beautiful knitted heirloom stockings for the whole family. There are six gorgeous stranded-colorwork styles as well as instructions to design your own Christmas stocking.

Potholders

So much Christmas magic is created in the kitchen, be sure to add some decorations there. This book includes three holiday potholders including a gingerbread house, winter birds, and pigs on the run.

Silverware Holders

Even your silverware gets wrapped for Christmas with these adorable cutlery holders you can knit. There are six different styles from Gingerbread House to a Church and even a Christmas tree. You could make the same style for the entire family or knit a different style for a unique place setting.

Christmas Toys

These toys are so cute and little one will be excited to play with them year after year. There’s squishy Christmas pig and easy to knit snowman with detachable hat and scarf.

Christmas Ornaments

Give your Christmas tree a bit of Scandinavian flair with these adorable knitted ornaments. You’ll love the quick results of making the mini elf hat, mini mittens, and striped mini stockings.

There are also patterns for mini socks with flowers, stripes, and initials.

You can use these to decorate the tree, make garland, add as gift toppers, or give as gifts.

Garments & Accessories

BOWS - Linvik designed some simple striped and polka-dot bows that may be used in so many ways. Use them to decorate a Christmas tree, a pair of shoes, a headband, your pets, a potted plant, a gift box, or even a wine bottle. You’ll want to have lots of knitted bows on hand for whatever needs a little Christmas cheer.

WINTER BIRDS - Bullfinches and Magpies are a staple in Scandinavian design and you’ll find so many of them in this book. They are featured in mittens, socks, a baby sweater, and hats.

THE ELF MOTHER’S HEART - This set originally started as a mystery knit along but in this book you get the patterns all at once. You’ll be able to knit a set of mittens, socks, and hat featuring surly elves and a large heart motif.

MORE ACCESSORIES - The rest of the book includes lots of accessories including socks, headbands, hats, mittens, cowls, wrist warmers, and slippers.

I hope you enjoyed this overview of what you’ll find in Jorid Linvik’s Big Book of Christmas Knits.

If you’d like to purchase your own copy of this book you can get it from Trafalgar Square or on Amazon.
