10 Summertime Knits using Knit Picks Dishie Cotton Yarn

Don’t put away your needles just because it’s summer!

Now is the time to use lighter fibers such as cotton, linen, silk, and bamboo. Today, I’d like to talk to you about knitting with cotton yarn.

One of my favorite cotton yarns is Knit Picks Dishie Cotton. It’s a worsted weight cotton yarn - that means it is a Craft Yarn Council weight #4.

It’s named Dishie because it’s great for dishcloths. This machine washable yarn is durable, somewhat “scrubby” feeling and comes in tons of colors.

However, you can (and should!) knit this yarn in many other projects! I’ve rounded up 10 fun summertime patterns you’ll want to cast on right away.

Pie Potholders Knitting Pattern

#1. Pie Potholders Knitting Pattern

Are you looking for a knit touch to add kitsch to your kitchen?
Do you want a way to stand out at the potluck?
Trying to make the perfect housewarming gift?
Then these pie themed potholders might be the project for you!
The main pattern is for a potholder/trivet that looks like a lattice crust style pie. The variations included use different fillings/tops that have the look of pumpkin, cream pies or tarts depending on what colors you choose to knit them with.

Jacquard Basket Knitting Pattern

#2. Jacquard Basket Knitting Pattern

The two-color jacquard design of this all-cotton basket is full of color and texture, but the sophisticated appearance of the design is very easy to work. I like the jacquard design because it actually reminds me of a woven basket!

Knit Picks’ Dishie yarn held double-stranded creates an extremely durable and stable, yet collapsible, basket. The seed stitch base provides a flat foundation for the basket; stitches are picked up from the base, and the jacquard pattern gently lofts upward to a slightly scalloped I-cord bound off top rim.

Makes a great gift when filled with baked goods or yarn!

Cotton Coaster Free Knitting Pattern

#3. Cotton Coaster Free Knitting Pattern

This pattern is for a square (or diamond-shaped, depending on the angle) coaster. This coaster features a garter stitch pattern that works very well for soaking up the condensation from your cold beverage glass.

This coaster is so handy to have at hand! Perfect for catching the drips from the outside of your ice water, sparkling water, or other cold drink.

This coaster is knit flat on size 7 (4.5mm) knitting needles using worsted weight 100% cotton yarn. This is a written pattern.

Summer Cotton Knot Bag Knitting Pattern

#4. Summer Cotton Knot Bag Knitting Pattern

This take on the Japanese knot bag in cotton makes a great casual bag for summer.

It is knit in the round in one piece from the bottom up, including the straps. The straps are then joined with kitchener stitch at the top.

Two strands of yarn are held together throughout. Linen stitch gives the bag a rustic, woven look that stretches little and better holds it shape.

Skinny Drink Koozie (Cozy) Knitting Pattern

#7. Skinny Drink Koozie Knitting Pattern

These Skinny Koozies are designed specifically to fit seltzer/skinny/slim cans. If you don’t like that regular-sized koozies don’t fit skinny cans properly, these solve the problem.

Additionally, these skinny koozies prevent your hand from freezing while holding the can. They also absorb the sweat on the can, so your hand doesn’t get all wet.

These koozies are worked in the round on double-pointed needles. They are worked top-down starting with a 1x1 ribbing at the top followed by stockinette stitch the rest of the way down.

The decreases at the bottom provide a “floor” for the can to sit on so it doesn’t fall out of the koozie while holding.

Adorable ALSAP Rabbit Knitting Pattern (As Little Sewing As Possible)

#8. ALSAP Rabbit Knitting Pattern (As Little Sewing As Possible)

Rabbits nibble. Rabbits snuggle. They have big ears and they don’t talk much, so they are very good listeners. And what kid wouldn’t want someone that hangs on their every word?

The ALSAP Rabbit is worked in the round, using the magic loop technique, adding tails and limbs as you go to make your rabbit stronger and to make your life easier. You will have to do a bit of sewing: two French knots for the eyes, a bit for the nose, stitching down two ears and then attaching the head and tail to the body. Not bad, for a whole rabbit, eh?

Linen Stich Placemat FREE Knitting Pattern

#9. Linen Stitch Placemat Free Knitting Pattern

When a girl finally gets a dinning room table, what does she do first? Makes her own placemats of course!

These washable cotton placemats are constructed using the linen stitch which provides a sturdy, durable fabric to protect and add zest to your table setting. The mats’ size is easily modified by adding an even number of stitches for width or rows for length.

Show off your knitting chops next time you’re at the farmers market with this chic and useful bag!

Worked in the round from the bottom up, the body features a simple mesh stitch pattern that stretches as you fill it with groceries.

The handles are worked separately, also in the round, then sewn on for extra strength.
