The diameter of a knitting needle or crochet hook determines the size of the knitted/crocheted stitches. Needles and hooks usually include both US needle sizes and mm. However, sometimes patterns will only specify one or the other, that's where this needle conversion chart comes in handy.
For example, if you want to know what is US size 8 knitting needles in the UK, just look at the chart. You’ll see a US 8 is equivalent to a UK size 6 needle. Or if you want to know what size is 4.5 mm knitting needles, looking at the chart, you’ll see it’s a size 7.
