The Best Free Christmas Stocking Patterns
#1. Macro Stockings Free Knitting Pattern
Want to knit holiday stockings quickly? Knit Holly, Jolly, or Merry—each of these stockings is knit with Berroco Macro, and can be knit super fast! All three are included in the free pattern.
Uses super bulky weight yarn.
#2. Falling Snow Stocking Free Knitting Pattern
The stocking uses bulky weight yarn and real sock construction, including a short row heel and abbreviated rounded toe. So, if you wanted a pair of socks to wear, knitting with fingering weight yarn and minor modifications should do the trick.
In bulky yarn, however, this is one laaarge rustic looking stocking!
#3. Tenenbaum Stocking Free Knitting Pattern
This worsted weight colorwork stocking is so quick to knit up! Short row heel, stranded knitting
The pattern is written for an intermediate sock knitter.
Uses worsted weight yarn.
#4. Bountiful Christmas Stocking Free Knitting Pattern
Christmas stockings should be as bountiful as your Christmas spirit! The third pattern in our Holiday KAL is for cabled stockings spacious enough for a generous portion of trinkets and treasures, without being overtly gargantuas. Designed by Maritime Family Fiber.
Uses worsted weight yarn.
#5. Scandinavian Christmas Stockings Free Knitting Pattern
Great beginning stranding project. The sample used 5 colors, 1 ball of each color, but the stocking could be made with just 3 colors (1 ball of each) if desired. A 3 color option would use 2 colors for the body of the stocking and the third color would be used for the heel and the toe.
#6. Marled Christmas Stockings Free Knitting Pattern
Here’s what designer, Mackenzie Sasser has to say about this project. “ I have always had a knit stocking similar to this one growing up, I loved it because my parents could put items of all shapes and sizes and it would stretched and full on Christmas morning. I wanted to make them for my family, but wanted it to be seamless, modern, and quick.”
This is a simple modern stocking. It’s knit in-the-round and uses any worsted weight yarn doubled to give a marled look. It could also be used with a bulky yarn if a solid color is wanted.
Uses worsted weight yarn
#7. Late Night Christmas Stockings Free Knitting Pattern
Late Night Christmas Stocking is knit from the top down and features a foldover ribbing, an afterthought heel and a toe knit in a contrasting color. Perfect for last minute gifts and late night knitting.
#8. Simple Holiday Stocking Free Knitting Pattern
The same basic template is used for all three stockings, but with three different stitch patterns for the leg and foot. Feel free to substitute your own favorite stitch pattern, as long as it divides evenly into 72 stitches.
Each stocking begins with an i-cord that forms the top edge and the hanging loop. Stitches are then picked up along the i-cord and worked downward to create the stocking. A short-row heel and a star toe give the finished product a simple look that won’t distract from your chosen stitch pattern.
Uses worsted weight yarn. Designed by Carissa Browning.
#9. Personalized Christmas Stockings Free Knitting Pattern
With 48 stitches around there is enough space to knit most names. Your personal arrangement of some suggested festive graphics or your own designs will make your creation unique.
This pattern assumes that you know something about knitting in the round with magic loop or DPNs. It will be easy for anyone who has knit a top-down sock before. But even if this is your first sock, directions are complete and clear.
Designed by Mare Allison. Uses worsted weight yarn.
#10. Sugar Twist Stocking Free Knitting Pattern
Make this knit stocking in all three colors, and your mantel has never looked better! Stitched in Patons Classic Wool Worsted and featuring intricate cabling, the large size has room for lots of goodies!
