10 Free Sea Creatures Knitting Patterns
Knit toys for your little ones (or for yourself) inspired by the sea!
These fun to knit aquatic friends feature projects such as an octopus, lobster, turtle, crab, starfish, shrimp, prawn, nautiloid, fish, and even a tiny submarine.
There’s sure to be a toy suitable for any landlubber to cuddle.
Most of these are small knitting projects that will be on and off your needles faster than you can say “Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa.” That’s the Hawaiian name for the Reef Triggerfish.

The body (head) of Giant Octopus is about 4 inches wide, and the legs are each approximately 12 inches long. He is worked in the round and all in one piece; the only seaming you’ll need to do is to attach the bottom piece to the top.

#5. Little Sea Creatures Free Knitting Pattern
These Little Sea Creatures are knit in-the-round, using Magic Loop or double pointed needles, and the parts are all knit on as you go, so no attaching parts later. Sea Creatures (with their heights) include Octopus (3 ½”), Starfish (2”), Turtle (2 ½”), and Crab (1 ½”).
They are worked in worsted wt. (Aran/10-ply) yarn:
Octopus (50 yds.), Starfish (35 yds.), Turtle (Color A-25 yds., Color B-15 yds.), Crab (40 yds.)
These sweet little sea creatures take little yarn, so they’re great stash-busters and wonderful craft table items.

#6. LaPrawnda the Shrimp Free Knitting Pattern
LaPrawnda is a little shrimp who makes a nice guard for your stash, a gift for a friend, or a welcome addition to a knitted seafood salad.
LaPrawnda can be knit at any gauge-- use super bulky to make a jumbo shrimp, or sock yarn for a tiny baby prawn. (Using size 3 needles and DK yarn, LaPrawnda is about 2” from tail to nose.)
Adjust your needle size according to whichever yarn you choose- I suggest going down two or three needles sizes from what your yarn recommends. This way, you will get a nice, firm fabric that will hold stuffing well.
